Level 68 Pepper Panic Saga Guide With Tips
(Update 1/15/2014 – King changed the board layout and requirements for level 68 yesterday. The strategy for making the matches is till the same only now it is a little easier to do. I’ve updated the video below to show level 68 completed with the new requirements and board. I will update this guide in the next few days to reflect the changes, for now you can read about them by clicking here.)
Level 68 Pepper Panic Saga is a “Match all the patterns!” level that begins with 25 moves. There are no purple or green peppers on the board and that means there are 4 colors of peppers in play. The board is shaped like a plus sign (+) and has four 2 tile holes arranged around the center. The middle of the board measures 4 tiles by 4 tiles and the holes create a 1 tile wide lane that surrounds the main board.
The size and shape of the board is the number one obstacle to completing this level. The tight outside rows and columns make it hard to move the peppers around in any kind of meaningful way, and the 4×4 center isn’t big enough to complete a 5 pepper straight line match. The lower number of peppers in play does help out some, but there is no way to sugar coat it, this level is difficult.
Level 68 Pepper Panic Saga Requirements
In order to pass level 68 Pepper Panic Saga you have to complete the following requirements:
- Match all the patterns (4)
All of the required patterns in level 68 are matches of 5 peppers in a straight line of any color.
Level 68 Pepper Panic Saga Strategy
(tl;dr warning: If you don’t like to read scroll down to the bottom for the cliff notes)
If you are stuck on level 68, and just can’t seem to get the peppers to line up, you have 3 options:
- Block the game on Facebook, quit, and never play it again.
- Join our add me group, get a bunch of friends, and spam them with requests for lives. Clear your calendar for the afternoon or evening and just keep playing until things finally work out.
- Try the tips I am about to give you and realize going into it that it is a tough level and sometimes, no matter how well you play it, the combinations you need just won’t be there. If you keep trying while making the right decisions you will eventually complete it and feel like the king or queen of the world and never have to play it again.
I personally use a combination of number 2 and number 3, and I mean c’mon, who doesn’t want to be the king or queen of the world. There is a 4th option which I’ve left out, which would require you to use gold bars to purchase lives or boosters to help you along. I didn’t leave this option out because I don’t personally spend money on the game, as far as that goes I am neutral, it’s your money and you can do what you want to with it. I left this option out because in all the times I played this level unsuccessfully I didn’t come across very many situations where a few more lives or a booster would have helped. For example if you find yourself with 1 move left and you have to match three more 5 pepper combos, I don’t see how one of the boosters could solve this dilemma.
If you are seriously considering option number 1 from my list I am going to make an argument against it. The idea of a seemingly impossible level is not a new concept and is consistent across all the games that King makes. One comes up every 15 levels or so and they are part of the reason we keep playing the games. If you have made it to level 68 congratulations, you’re doing good. You have managed to make it through levels 54 and 55 and I would wager if you went back to play either one of those right now you might have a hard time believing that you ever did it. So buck up and let’s get through this level together.
Level 68 Pepper Panic Saga Basics
To complete this level you are going to have to think about your moves and have a little bit of help from the way the peppers lay out on the board. Most of the tips I am going to present to you work great in a vacuum but if the board is not being your friend you might find you don’t get many chances to use them. The most important thing to remember is that there is only one way to complete a 5 pepper match. You need a gap between 2 groups of two of the same color peppers like in the image below:
There is no other way to make an immediate 5 pepper match, so if these conditions don’t exist you will need to create them. Once you have the gap in place you still need to maneuver a fifth pepper of that same color into place in order to complete the match, but you need the gap first. In level 68 the outside lanes created by the holes in the board make this hard, and when you don’t see two peppers of the same color sitting next to each other somewhere on the outside then you won’t be making your required match anytime soon. In this case I would look for action moves like 4 pepper combos and “L” or “T” matches to change things up on the board, and when all else fails start a pepper panic and hope that the new peppers that fall will be set up better.
When you have your gap in place like the above image, you have to try to work around it and get that fifth pepper into place. Vertical 3 pepper combos are useful here because they only displace the peppers in one column and preserve your 4 peppers with the gap. In the image below you can see how making the yellow 3 pepper combo will bring new peppers down without disturbing your orange peppers.
In a perfect world there would always be a gap and your biggest problem in life would be bringing the fifth pepper to the party. In reality you are probably going to have to start with 2 peppers of the same color that are together and have to make a few moves that set up the gap before you can even worry about bringing in the last pepper. The next image is an example of a situation you will come across more often, and finding situations like this will help you get out of level 68 for good. You can see that part of the gap exists between the red peppers. In order to get them into place you have to make the match with the orange which will put you in a position to be able to complete your 5 pepper match in one more move.
Another useful tip for level 68 Pepper Panic Saga is that the peppers that drop from below the hole in the center of the board are random. Clearing peppers from beneath this hole can potentially drop you the color of pepper you need just like it would from the top of the board. In the example below you can see that we have most of the peppers in place to make a 5 pepper match. Moving the blue pepper in the direction of the arrow will clear out that row and gives you a 25% chance that the pepper that will fall there will be yellow.
One last thing and then I will tie this up in a nice little bow and make a bullet point list for all of those people who would never be able to pay attention long enough to read a post this long.
After you have read this you will inevitably feel great. Your resolve will be renewed and you will go and open up level 68 straight away and start looking for gaps and chances to make moves that will set things up perfectly. The page will load up and the truck will drive away revealing the board only to expose the fact that there aren’t any gaps or any reasonable moves you can make to set one up. In this case look to stir things up. Look for 4 pepper combos that will clear rows and grow peppers. Try to focus on matches in the center of the board and try to get one color ready to start a pepper panic.
This is sometimes the strategy you have to go with. If you watch my videos or any of the other level 68 pepper panic videos on YouTube you will see that this situation presents itself at least once in every single one of them. The tip here is to make sure that you don’t get caught up in the chaos and miss opportunities to make required matches along the way. By all means blow stuff up, but take your time to check before each move so that you don’t miss something important.
Level 68 Pepper Panic Saga – Tips To Help You Beat This Level Once and For All
Finally, the tips for level 68 pepper panic saga are as follows:
- Look for the right conditions to make a 5 pepper combo, the gap between two groups of two peppers of the same color.
- Look for similar conditions where you can make one move to set up the gap.
- Vertical 3 way combos are useful to move peppers into place without disrupting your gap.
- Remember that the peppers that fall from below the hole at the top of the board are random, and clearing the rows below it can set up your gap.
- If no gap exists, and there is a slim chance of setting up a gap in just a few moves, make matches that will create action and change the board up.
- Take your time, explore all options before making a move.
- Make matches in the center of the board, and look for “T” and “L” shaped pepper matches that will clear out space and grow peppers.
- If you start a pepper panic cross your fingers and hope that you will make a 5 pepper match in the cascade that happens afterwards.
- Try not to get too frustrated, some times no matter what you do completing this board won’t be possible. Take a break and when you come back I’m sure you will get the right board conditions and move past the level.
